Worst management/service, Worst attempt at traditional Thai food, Pleasant Sushi, Apps and Martini's
by tasexton at Citysearch
If you are intent upon visiting this poser restaurant then here is your fair warning. In terms of traditional Thai fare...don't even bother, however if you would like Thai food this is a suble interpretation....this is your place. Their Tom Kha is a joke (why can't B'ham get it together?), which is on the menu as cocnut soup w/ chicken/tofu. Most meals are tasty, just not authentic and geared towards a bland palate. **Sushi** is actually the tastiest part of this restaurant's repoire and reasonably priced too. I highly recommend the spicy scallop and yellowtail sashimi. As far as appetizers go the Surin Baskets are a must and the Edamame has the perfect amount of Sea Salt on top. Drinks are extremely overpriced, but of excellent quality for the town. My advice: snack at home, show up for apps and drinks, leave happy.
- Pros: Surin Baskets, Drinks, Sushi
- Cons: Management/service, no parking, bland food, overpriced meals.
About Management
by regularcustomerofsurin at Citysearch
First of all i did not wanted to write any reviews or have written any but, the experience i had on my last visit made me write this. I read a lots of reviews by other people about this resturant however non has any comments about the management. I think the biggest concern about this resturant is the management especially the one manager who keeps on yelling and acting like he is super hero to every employes in front of customers. Do i really need to write this ? Take the employes to the office and then yell or harash them whatever you want to do, just dont do in front of customers. I have had this experience couple of times .This manager was screaming to his employee in front of my table where i had babies with me .I don't think he has any manners or brain and worst of all you cannot tell if he is speaking either english , spanish , thai or any other language .How do u operate your resturant when no one understands what you mumbling about. IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH MAN !
The manager is also very rude even to customers . I was at the resturant last week and I left a package in a brown bag .I know that its not their responsibility to take care of my things but when i called them just after i left the resturant ,they said they found the package and the manager said that he would hold that for me .After few days , i was there to pick up the package ,he tells me that he threw that away and above all he was very rude to me .How can he threw that away when he promised me to keep that for me. This is the worst example of management than anything else .Just the fake smile won't get anything done "Mr Manager". I wonder how Mr. Surin is keeping up with him.Does he know anything about this? Does he know how his resturant being managed?
Above all everything is good .Food is best in town . love the Nam Tok Beef. It rox. kids luv satay chicken. amazing martinies .worth 11 bucks really. friendly servers. Great bartenders . Needs to improve management.
- Pros: servers ,bartenders , food , martinies ,
- Cons: management ,MR MANAGER
Worst customer service in town!!! Don't recommend this restaurant to anyone!!
by tokwawian at Citysearch
Food was okay, but the customer service was the WORST in town. Can you believe that a waiter would throw money at the customers?
The waiter was very rude at the beginning. The attitude of the waiter got worse when we wanted to use the coupon. We were not satisfied with his customer service, so we didn't tip him very well. My friend left some tip on her card, and I left some on the table. Apparently, he was upset with us that we didn't tip him well. He chased after us to the door and threw the money at us and asked us to keep our change!!!! When my friend went back in to the restaurant to argue with the manager, the manager defended him and said he was upset because we didn't tip him well. Then the waiter said he would definitely do it again in front of the manager and my friend!!!! The manager and the waiter did not apologize on what had happened to us.
It was a terrible experience!! I definitely DO NOT recommend Surin West to anyone!!!!

Worst Service In Town

The food is good, but you will only get what you actually order about 10% of the time. A spot for wannabe hipsters. The service is always appalling, and the servers just don't care about your dining experience, or if you get what you actually order. The waiter even broke a cork in a bottle of wine once, and tried to convince us that we should still drink it, with crumbles floating around in our glasses.
- Pros: Decent food
- Cons: TERRIBLE service, haughty waiters and waitresses, screaming children, soccer moms, wannabe hipsters
Probably overrated but good for vegetarians

Surin is fine but not fantastic. Also, why is there sushi in a Thai restaurant? There are many vegetarian options and it's probabaly one of the most veg-friendly restaurants in the 'Ham. The service is variable, sometimes great, sometimes sub-par. I recently asked for a side of peanut sauce and was told that I couldn't have it. When I asked for chicken satay with peanut sauce, hold the chicken, I couldn't have that either. Drinks are over priced (aristocrat martini for $10). Your best bet is to go for lunch. The lunch specials are a good deal and they can substitute tofu for any meat dish.
That said, the quality of the food at Surin West is very consistent (clean, hot, fresh) and they do make a mean 7-layer bar for dessert.
