From pecan waffles to legendary hash browns, breakfast fare rules at this homey 24-hour chain restaurant--but don't miss the chili.. In Short
Since 1955, this Atlanta-based chain has welcomed an all-hours crowd of shift workers, suits, regulars and late-night partiers with comfy booths and an extensive menu of Southern-accented home-style grub. Waffles (pecan or regular) are the restaurant's most popular dish. Other breakfast favorites include porterhouse T-bone steak and eggs, country ham, and signature hash browns cooked seven ways, from smothered with onions to topped with chili or cheese. Another bargain is the bowl of chili, which comes topped with onions, ham and cheese.

This One in Trussville, AL

By Leif Flanders

The lovely Mrs. Flanders was sleeping-in at home and her mother, Mrs. Godwin, rode with me early to do some errands (she does not drive). I could eat a horse and Mrs. Godwin offered to buy me breakfast. Well, that was sweet! Now obviously, this is not going to be the Fine Dining type eatery we are use to, but I?ll say right off the bat (and you can quote me) the food was yummy (and free!). Mrs. Godwin had a single waffle (they?re large) and some bacon. She allowed all was tasty and raved about the coffee. I?ll have to agree about the coffee! I had the Western Omelet (add jalape?os, naturally ? would you?), cold milk, grits and coffee (did I mention Mrs. Godwin was paying?) and all were delicious! The Omelet was especially worth the stop; not at all dry. The grits had a good texture and taste to them. And the 2% was so coooold! Negatives: Not today, but sometimes the service can be spotty. Also, Mrs. Godwin mentioned that high curb outside, at the entrance, could be a challenge for older folks. Well, there you have it. My thoughts on this solid breakfast bar. Today, I?d rate it a 9 on a 10!
