Shula's winning tradition on the field continues at this classy steakhouse chain..
In Short
The chop house's elegance is indisputable, yet there is an oddly casual spirit to a place in which the menu is written on a football and set at your table on a kicking tee. Certified Angus Beef doesn't come cheap, and the sides are priced a la carte, but the nationally renowned steakhouse always finds a way to make the cut for those willing to pay for quality.
Sour service and dirty pigskin. This restaurant prides itself on being a classy steakhouse. Well, there is nothing classy about receiving a menu on dirty pigskin. I was very disappointed with my entire dining experience. Coming from Los Angeles, I am used to swank steakhouses such as Mastro's Steakhouse and Morton's. After being seated, we were given a menu written on a football. Since the menu had been passed through the hands of many others, it was nothing but a dirty piece of pigskin with a very limited selection. Our waitress was very warm and friendly towards us until we decided to order the salmon and chicken instead of having steak. Her demeanor and attitude comletely changed. We had just come from a wedding that day and were trying to keep meal on the healthier side. We were extremely disappointed and uncomfortable because of this and found it VERY timely when she became sugary sweet again when it came time for us to pay our check. I still paid $26 for my salmon and it turned out to be below average. I would have had a better piece of fish at McDonalds. In short, the restaurant's menu and service was absolutely disappointing. My best meal during our stay in Brimingham was at a Waffle House.
Way Overpriced!. As a former Chef, I love a good restaraunt and I'm willing to pay for it. At Shulas, the atmosphere is nice in a darly elegant way, but they nickel and dime you for everything. Order your main entree, and any kind of side item is drastically over-priced and charged to you. Upon eating with a bottle of wine, the bill was a little shocking. I'm not afraid to spend, but for the money, I've eaten at much better places for a lot less.
