Unfortunately Bad Experience. I left this store furious and extremely offended by the service I received and the presumptuous attitude with which I was treated. I have a great deal of experience with paper crafts & cardmaking and have decided to design my own invitations. Before beginning the process, however, I wanted to shop around and see what else was available- what was going to be the most cost effective & to find out who had the best supplies. I went to Alan's because I had heard about their large selection and someone suggested they might have some DIY paper & envelope choices. As soon as I explained what I was looking for, I realized that this was not necessarily the right store for this. Upon suggestion from the salesman, however, I continued browsing through their books and wall displays. As I searched, I tried to explain what exactly I was looking for and how much of our budget I had prepared to spend. The dollar amount was fairly low because, as I mentioned, I had planned to do most of the design work & assembly myself. The rest of the time spent in the store was very frustrating, I was spoken to as if I had no understanding of stationery & design, that I had taste outside of my price range, that I was probably going to have to spend some time searching around and most likely settle for something less than I was looking for. The salesman's reaction to my plan to print ourselves was as if I had said I was going to make them with construction paper and a glue stick . We have a connection with a reputable and professional printing company who has offered to print them for us but he dismissed this fact and insisted it would certainly be a regrettable mistake. My inquiries regarding the process of design, customization, paper choices, and ordering were responded to as if I were asking ridiculous and irrelevant questions. I was simply trying to understand the process in order to make educated choices but this seemed to annoy him more than anything. I was left to browse through countless books with little direction and no more knowledge than when I entered the store. I quickly found my way to the exit wishing I had not wasted my afternoon driving across town.
Incredible! Incredible! Best EVER!. Alan helped me so much with everything for my wedding-and he did it long distance! I live in New York and was only home in Birmingham once during this whole process. Alan sent me links of invitations to look at before I came home and we narrowed down what I was looking for. He emailed proofs to me and when I needed to choose napkins and cups for my reception, as well as my programs for the wedding, we did that all long distance as well. My invitations were even more fabulous than I thought they would be, the cups and napkins were done to coordinate with my invitations- at Alan's suggestion and he handled it all! I knew every step of the way what it was going to cost, and he had great ideas of how to save me money, to pull everything together and I never had to worry about a thing! I will be an Alan's Invitations shopper forever- no matter where I live!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST EVER! thanks Alan!
I am Alan's wife and someone just emailed me about the bad review that someone put on here-so thought I would post some reviews that are on other websites, you can't post links here, but there are links on our website to other wedding reviews- here are 3 from our former brides...
There is not a more accommodating, flexible, punctual, creative, or just plain fun group of people to work with for your invitations or party favor needs. You won't find a bigger selection to choose from and the prices are the best. You also won't wait months and months to get your invitations like most places. This is the only place I went for invitations where I felt like when I mentioned the word "wedding," they were not ready to clean my wallet out. No other place competes with Alan's Invitations, hands down. Tell Alan that Eleanor with the "Helinda Rook" font and Hawaiian hibiscus flower sent ya! Eleanor
I ordered engraved William Arthur invitations with customized calligraphy, they were MORE beautiful than I imagined. Alan helped fine tune the invitations to be exactly what I wanted and more! Alan helped me himself most of the time, and it isn't often that you have the owner of the business helping you. he knows so much about invitations and led me in the right direction and gave me ideas I had never even thought about to make it even more beautiful, when he was busy the women that work for him are very knowledgeable and were very helpful-all in all it couldn't have been a better experience. All parts of my wedding were coordinated-from the wedding invitations to the napkins, koozies, the program and even my thank you notes. everything was perfect and I have the MOST beautiful invitation to save for the rest of my life! Lizzy
Get an idea of what you are wanting by looking through all the different books they have. They will work with you no matter how small or big your event is. They listen to what you are wanting and give suggestions from there. But, they do have a variety of invitations ranging from high to low. We were in there so much we felt like we were family. Thanks Alan for all your help and especially for putting up with us. Kathy

Great Store! Great Customer Service! Highly Recommend!.
Not sure who wrote that other review, but I have been shopping at Alan's for years and recently my daughter got married and we used him for everything related to her wedding.
He had a sheet that had everything itemized on it, and we knew the pricing of everything-on top of that he helped us save some money, by telling us we didn't have to get reply cards for everyone we were sending invitations to. all the prices for everything were not only clearly in the albums or on the sheet, but he went over everything with us, before we ordered anything.
As for being pushy, Alan is the LEAST pushy salesman I have ever known. When we chose invitations, he told us NOT to pay for anything, to come back and look at the things we picked to make sure we still liked them and hadn't changed our mind.
Alan's Invitations is a great store, his staff is very helpful and Alan himself is very knowledgeable and tries to help you get what you want and stay within your budget. He has more to choose from than any other store I have been in, and I highly recommend it!
Wouldn't Recomend to anyone. Vendor definitely knew his stuff about invitations. Problem was that he was not open about price on everything. He was very pushy with my bride and avoided answering questions on cost. He kept pushing for a decision without helping her understand the price. When I addressed it with him he completely ignored me and didn't care because she had already paid. I would be willing to spend more somewhere else who respected me and my bride and gave us straight answers on what we wanted.
