I have been to alot of stylists and Monica Jordan is by far the worst. She did a sew-in (net weave) and clearly she didn't know what she was doing. I paid for it, but I hated it! She was so unprofessional and mean-spirited. I took the weave out 2 weeks later. I just don't understand how you provided services for people and insult them and their hair at the same time. Anyone thinking of going to this young lady, PLEASE think again. She comes off as a godly woman at first glance, but after sitting and talking with her for a moments, she shows her true colors. She is all about the money and not quality styling. I say it again... LOOK ELSEWHERE!
My first sew-in was done at this salon and it was the worst. I paid nearly $200 for a bulky install that didn't last two weeks. Tracks loosened within days and the stylist backed out when I wanted her to fix it. The day of my appointment she also double booked and I had to wait. Unprofessional and horrible experience. I took it as a lesson learned. Do not go here.
I ordered a custom-made lace front wig.
This was when they first came out, and usually cost from $800 to $1000. So I was excited to found out that she sold them for $500, which back then was a really good price.
Monica had a very warm and friendly personality. I saw several customers at the shop who were getting their lace wigs styled, which they had purchased from her. The wigs looked absolutely great on them. I briefly spoke to a few of the customers, and they were extremely happy with the service.
When my wig came in, I was disappointed. It was not the custom-wig I had ordered, it was just close. The fit did not cover my temples. Before it came in, I had heard her mention "finding one" like what I was requesting. At this time, not a lot of stores had in-stock wigs, and it could take months to get a custom-made wig, because of how long they take to make and ventilate from scratch.
Then I realized that this was not really a "custom-made" wig, specially made to the specifications I had requested. I should have wondered why she was able to get them in so quickly. I believe she would just search the web for in-stock wigs, try to find one as close to the specifications as possible, and order it. The fit was CLOSE but not what we measured. The color, length, and curl pattern was a little off from what I had requested.
At any rate, I was just happy it had come in at all, so I wasn't complaining about small details. I knew I was getting a good price, and you get what you pay for. When she tried to apply the wig to my hairline, it was too low, and the line of demarcation was so obvious, it looked like a rug glued to my head. I immediately asked her to take it down.
She had initially told me that some clients have to have their hairline shaved back, and it was the only way to apply the wig. I later learned this is not true, and there are many ways to apply the wigs without shaving. Shaving my hair back was NOT an option, as I knew it would look ridiculous if I didn't have a wig on and take forever to grow back. Because I was unwilling to shave my head, I assume this is why it appeared to be glued halfway down my forehead.
I tried wearing the wig other ways, with bobby pins and such, but it was too loose and wouldn't stay in place. I ended up giving it to my friend, whose head fit it better.
Later, after buying more in-stock wigs from other sources, and watching a few youtubes, I had no trouble applying the wigs MYSELF in a way that looked natural on me, and I am not even a licensed hairstylist.
The only reason I give 3 stars for satisfactory, is because I saw plenty of other clients who were very happy with their wigs and the service. So my bad experience may not be the norm.
At any rate, if a stylist says you have to shave your hairline back to apply a lace wig, RUN!
Glad She didn't show up for the consultation. I'm getting married in May and have been wearing wigs for the pass year. My best friend happened to find her website because I desperately need someone to style this $300 full lace wig I bought for my wedding and honeymoon. I ca;;ed and got a pleasant voicemail and was excited to hear such a pleasant voicemail. I called her back later and talked to Monica and she set up a consultation on Sunday. I called a few times before Sunday to confirm the appointment because it was a 40 minute drive and gas is $4.17 / gallon for premium gas (what I have to use in my car...argh). Anyway. she did not answer or return any phone calls. But I went anyway. I got the address off the website (brookhurst dr) and went to a building that appeared to be a place that does taxes and it appeared it may have a salon upstairs. So I called again to make sure I was at the right place. Still no answer from Monica. So I call the number on the upstairs window of the building. Someone answered the phone and said she was at chruch. So I told her I set up a consultation with someone and she said maybe it was someone else at the shop. So I hung up and continued to call the cell number where I reached her ONCE, but to no avail. So while I sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes, I started googling to see if there was anothe address. I did find an address that was around the corner so I went to that address. It was less than a mile away and couldn't find a location there. SO I continued to google and call her thinking she must be in a shop SOMEWHERE and I'm just lost. Well she never answered. But while googling, I found this site and saw all these negative reviews. I am so appreciative of the reviews. While I do believe some of the positive reviews are real, I find it akward that all the reviews are either 1 star or 5 stars. Back and forth reading through the reviews. But when I read reviews, if I see more thana few negative reviews, the positive reviews become skewed because I feel that there are too many people who had negative experience and I would be taking my chances. Well I can't afford to do that with a $300 wig. And I think it is horrible business to not EVER call the customer back. So that also left me believing more of these negative reviews are true than the positive. I'm actually glad sh didn't show up now because I don't have time to play with unprofessional people. I guess some people just live on a different level where certain actions are acceptable to them because they live around people who act the same way. But I try to surround myself with people who know how to act and I definitely won't waste my money on someone who obviously seems to not know howto conduct themselves in business. I started to call from another number to see if she woul ever answer againm but I realize I'm still not going to go to her so there is no need to waste any more time or gas on this lady.
Best Stylist in Birmingham Metro Area by far!!!!!!.
Usually I don't provide feedback simply because I am a very busy person. I have been Monica's client for approximately two years now. She is truly an authentic, talented, educated, etc stylist. There are a laundry list of adjectives that describe this hair diva. I am a long time wearer of weave installations. I have NEVER experienced flawless installations until I met Monica!! I recently received a flawless installation with a front lace closure. The hair she uses is SIMPLY gorgeous. I get several compliments and provide several referrals to inquiring minds wanting to know...
I am grateful for Monica's honesty because she will give you professional advise about your hair whether you like the advice or not. Only the serious mature clients take the advice and make informed decisions. This is how much i am loyal to my stylist - I don't own a bottle of shampoo or conditioner. I don't get my hair done unless Monica does it! No exceptions. She makes accommodations for my busy schedule which is a plus for my needs.
For those of you who alleges they can't get in touch with Monica I suggest you try calling the correct contact number and leave a voice-mail message if necessary as my calls and/or messages never went unanswered.
I have been to several stylists in the Birmingham area for installations and have not meet one (and I emphasize one) that can hold a stylist instrument or installation efforts to Monica. I found it eccentric that front closures were not foreign knowledge to many other stylists but the inability to execute such an installation was overwhelmingly disappointing due to modern and cutting- edge styles. All I can say ~~Monica please don't leave the Birmingham area without educating other stylists! Thank you

The Best Stylist in Bham. Well I've been going to Monica since 09 and have had to many to count excellent services. Her salon has always been cleàn and her work beyond great. She stays so busy so if you dont have an appt its hard to get in. I am buffled by the negative feedback. It truly sounds like the same person just by the wording. When i say same person the stylist in training who worked with her. That was a nightmare. Monica works is the best I've ever had. She has done my natural hair and now my sewns. I was going to stylist in bham and atl but her work is really good. She cuts soooo well. She has always layed my tracks tight, relaxers straight and daughters hair well. She did recently move because she wanted to downsize and focus on education and me..lol no just kidding but the clients. I love her new location!
UNPROFESSIONAL STYLIST~PROFESSIONAL LIAR.
Monica Jordan is a great example of an unprofessional anything. I have never read so many negative things about one person. I hope that people will view City Search's comments before they waste their time and money on the foolishness of Monica Jordan. She is a horrible person who does not see the errors of her wicked ways. Monica thinks what she does to people is ok. She create greatness of her work and her intelligence in that BIG EMPTY HEAD of hers. It has been 3 years since I have graced this woman's so called shop with my presence and I am still shocked to see comments like this about her.
Tell your family and friends to stay away from this CLOWN! She is a mean, unhappy, unsatisfied person.
Stay AWAY. I don't usually do this kind of thing... but I feel the public must be warned of bad service. I went in for a sew-in... the sew in she did was VERY thin. Also I got a rinse in the crown of my head...or so I thought. She charged me $20 for the rinse. That's the price for a WHOLE head. And when i got home, and looked closely in the mirror I realized she did not do the rinse well. I'm walking around with weave of one color and my real hair another color. She had to have seen that, so why on earth would she charge me for it, and $20 that. Why? Because she is money hungry. That cheap unethical move will cost her way more I'm sure. Okay moving along... she does talk a lot about her friends in high places and in the political and corporate world. If you say something she doesn't like, she will take it out on your hair. The shop looks absolutely nothing like the pictures. Oh! Beware she is moving and will now be renting from someone over where McDonalds is on Roebuck Pky/Gadsden Hwy. Also, I should've paid more attention to the warning signs....4 times I have been to her shop, and all four times there was never anyone else there. I finally asked her about it, and she started talking about how crazy the people were that has worked there. She even told me three of her former renters work next door. WTF! That tells me she is the one with the attitude problem, not them! I don't know how she is gonna make it at some1 else's shop. Good luck! Also she absolutely CAN NOT cut. I don't know how int he world she was able to get a salon...all it takes is confidence I guess...even if she is a fraud with next to no skills. She cant trim, and she can not cut whatsoever. Monica Jordan if you are reading this, take a class please.
Former booth rental & the best stylist she could of ever had working in that piece of salon. I made it what it was & it hasn't been the same w/o me. You make your bed hard for yourself when you treat customers & your stylist like ''$hit''. I moved because I got tired of lights & water being turned off. Its was stressful working with her Monica is the example of FAKE. She Lies about EVERYTHING.
You don't get what you pay for.
She does a great sewin and the hair is quality but she does not always have the needed resources available and will substitute. The picture online is not the actual shop. I don't know where that came from.
I communicated well in advance my expectations. I even sent pictures of what I wanted. Neither the style or color were matched. Communications were slow or nonexistent and she does not stand behind her product. She boasts of clients in the judicial system as if to intimidate.
