An Elegant Night - and Cheap!

They bill this bistro as ?Located at Five Points South, Chez Fonfon offers Continental (mainly French) cuisine in a very elegant setting. The decor is decidedly upscale, featuring gaslights, antique furniture and white tablecloths. The menu offers a very impressive array of French appetizers, entrees and desserts, as well as an extensive wine list. There is also a plat du jour for each day of the week.? Mrs. Flanders?s comments at first were, this place is ?too loud and too Yuppie filled.? But the lovely Mrs. Flamders soon warmed to this place and said it was better than Frank Stitt?s other eateries! And cheaper. But this brasserie was definitely a fine dinning restaurant! It was time for libations. Mrs. Flanders had the Orange Thing and I had my favorite (or 2 or 3). Guess what?? An Italian Negroni! Mrs. Flanders wanted no appetizer, having had lunch out with the girls, but I had some pate. For the main course, Mrs. Flanders had an omelet with salmon and they prepared for me, off the menu, Steak au Poivre (Pepper Steak). Her omelet was out-of-this-world tasty and my steak was yummy!!! washed down the excellent meal with a bottle of a good 2003 French Bordeaux. Mrs. Flanders could not have dessert but I had some chesses served with some Espresso coffee and some Cappuccino for Mrs. Flanders! This was a casual elegant place and I cannot think of one diminishing remark. We?ll be back! 10/10!
